Facebook Test ["error","(#200) Provide valid app ID"] 7 years ago A big thank you to everyone who accepted our invitation to come and see the Tayside Police Museum yesterday during the Kirriemuir Feel Good Festival. We welcomed almost 100 visitors, and it was great to meet and talk to so many of the museum's Facebook page followers in person. Everybody really enjoyed the experience, in particular the opportunity to try on the uniforms, and I dont believe weve ever seen so many 3 and 4 year old Chief Constables! Also, a big thank you to those who have volunteered to help us open the museum to the public for the coming season which of course starts on Saturday 31st March. However, we are still looking for volunteers, so if any of you could spare a couple of hours every now and again until September, you would be very welcome. Please also visit our Web page (taysidepolicemuseum.org.uk) for more information on the museum and opening times for 2018. ... See more View on facebook 7 years ago The Tayside Police Museum will be open for the 2018 season from March 31st (the start of the school holidays) but we have agreed to open the doors this coming Saturday, 17th February, in support of the very popular Kirriemuir Feel Good Festival, so why not come along for a visit. We will be open from 10am until 4pm, and it would be great to see you! ... See more View on facebook 7 years ago I've been emailed several images relating to a once very well known police officer of Angus Constabulary, namely a Sergeant Sid Kippen who was stationed in several local towns between the 1930s and the 1960s. The sender, his son who now lives in Australia, has also provided several wonderful anecdotes relating to his experience growing up in Kirrie as the local Sergeant's son, and a brilliant story about Winston Churchill's daughter Sarah, a frequent visitor to Kirriemuir, by all accounts a bit of a wild lass and no stranger to the police station! Lots of new stories to share with our visitors when we re-open to the public Easter 2018. Looking forward to it! ... See more View on facebook 7 years ago Hello everyone. We're posting this message to let you know that the Tayside Police Museum Kirriemuir has closed for the 2017 season and will re-open at the beginning of the Easter School Holidays next April. During this 'closed' period we will still be able to accomodate pre-arranged group visits which can be instigated by accessing our website, taysidepolicemuseum.org.uk and emailing us a contact form. There is no lower limit on the numbers, so please feel free to contact us even if you're looking for a way to entertain / amuse family and friends visiting with you over the festive period. The volunteers would like to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of you who visited the TPM in 2017, and for the glowing feedback and recommendations many of you have posted on TripAdvisor and Facebook, as well as those written in our Visitors Book. Also, even though entry to the museum is free, the generous donations received from visitors and the local community will allow us to make some improvements to the museum prior to the official 2018 opening. And finally, we are always looking to recruit volunteers in order to keep the museum open to the public, so please get in contact with us if you feel you could help. No Policing experience necessary! ... View on facebook 7 years ago Timeline Photos Recently, Arbroath’s Police Scotland Youth Volunteers visited the Tayside Police Museum in Kirriemuir as part of their continuing commitment to understanding policing in their local area. The museum was formally opened in 2016 to show-case the work of legacy Tayside Police, Dundee City Police, Angus Constabulary and Perth and Kinross Constabulary during the years prior to the formation of Police Scotland. During their visit, PSYV Arbroath were guided through the decades by retired police officers Hamish Gray and George Morgan who between them have over 60 years of policing experience in the local area. The Youth Volunteers had a great time learning about the history of Policing in their area and were surprised to find that the origins of policing in their own town of Arbroath were first established as far back as 1836. Delving further back in time, they also found out that policing in Perth can be traced back to 1811, 18 years before Sir Robert Peel established the 'Bow Street Runners' in London. ...
